Rachael Smurthwaite
Rachael graduated from Northumbria University in 2010, having studied law part-time, whilst working full-time as a paralegal in various North East law firms. She commenced her training contract with the firm in September 2010 and works both out of our Gateshead and Lancaster offices.
Rachael had many years experience in conveyancing and general civil litigation before commencing her training contract. Her interest in education law stems from a friend whose child was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and the desire to ensure that he and his parents obtain the right kind of assistance.
Rachael has been specialising in admissions since joining the firm, working closely with parents in preparing for their appeal hearings. She also has experience across the full range of educational law issues including, special educational needs, exclusions, transport and children out of school.
Rachael also has a strong interest in community care law and disability discrimination law.
Rachael hopes to qualify into education law in 2012 and help more local families with their education issues.
